The escalating violence in Gaza and Israel threatens devastating physical harm and mental distress for children on all sides, the effects of which can last a lifetime as their sense of security is undermined. So far at least 28 Palestinian children between one and 17 years old have been reported killed in airstrikes on Gaza, one quarter of the total fatalities, and many more injured. UNICEF reiterates the UN Secretary-General's call on parties to exercise maximum restraint, and reminds them of their legal and moral obligation to protect children from harm.
